SIAA’s CEO, Suzanne Swinton, was delighted to be invited to speak at last week’s Lothian Independent Advocacy Providers Group (LIAPG) CPD.
The LIAPG CPD Development day was a great opportunity to meet Independent Advocacy Groups across Lothian and hear about the challenges and opportunities independent advocacy groups are experiencing.
Suzanne gave a brief overview of the role of SIAA in promoting, supporting, and advocating for Independent Advocacy in Scotland. She shared the key priorities for SIAA based on what the membership has told us over the last year through the conference, peer support and meetings with IA organisations. Suzanne was also part of a panel that discussed pros and cons of the Scottish Mental Health Law Review recommendations (SMHLR). It was informative to hear everyone’s views on the SMHLR recommendation through the slido platform. The views expressed were broadly representative of what independent advocacy groups fed into the SMHLR consultation response.
SIAA looks forward to participating in future independent advocacy events to continue learning about our members’ work and priorities.
