SIAA aims to build professional trusting relationships with several stakeholder groups;
- SIAA member organisations
- civil society and human rights organisations
- public sector and professionals
Note: SIAA does not work directly with the public, however we sometimes signpost people to independent advocacy organisations.
Relationship building: SIAA members
SIAA provides various types of information and support to our members, who are all independent advocacy organisations or groups. This includes;
- Members’ Resources – Principles, best practice guidance, case studies, members- only website area
- Learning & Training – new learning platform to be launch in 2025 will see consistent learning provision for our member organisations, external training signposting
- Issue-based support – For organisations (governance, funding, HR…), advocacy practice issues,
- Events – Peer supports, information sessions, roundtables, annual conference and AGM
As well as working towards building strong relationships with all our member organisations we aim to support existing networks and relationships between members. We often connect members with each other through peer support or direct connections to share views, expertise and create support systems.
Relationship building: civil society and human rights organisations
SIAA regularly share expertise, learn from and collaborate with civil society organisations, groups and networks. We are members of leading Scottish human rights organisations like Together, The ALLIANCE and Human Rights Consortium Scotland (HRCS). We occasionally work with researchers and organisations with specialist expertise to share information and best practice about independent advocacy.
Relationship building: public sector and professionals
We work with public sector and other duty bearers to raise awareness about independent advocacy, sometimes this means providing information sessions on independent advocacy or having informal meetings to discuss specific questions about independent advocacy and our members’ work. We facilitate connections between national organistions and our member organisations as well as providing up to date information on local independent advocacy provision.
