The Disabled Children and Young People (Transitions to Adulthood)(Scotland) Bill aims to improve opportunities for disabled children and young people as they grow up. This Bill considers children to be under 18 and young people to be between 18 and 26.

Dear [Insert name]
As you are aware, Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP is seeking to introduce her Disabled Children and Young People (Transitions to Adulthood)(Scotland) Bill in the Scottish Parliament. This Bill will improve outcomes for disabled children and young people in the transition to adulthood, and give them a fighting chance at a positive future.
Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP has now introduced her final proposal for the Bill, and is seeking cross-party support from MSPs for it. She needs this for it to proceed, and so your support would be greatly appreciated.
To do this, all you have to do is add your name to the list of MSPs supporting the bill.
I/We would be grateful if you could please do this by emailing the Chamber Desk if you have not already done so, and confirming that you would like to support the proposed Disabled Children and Young People (Transitions to Adulthood)(Scotland) Bill.
I/We would also be grateful if you could please encourage your colleagues to register their support for the Bill by contacting the Chamber Desk too.
By way of further background, the Disabled Children and Young People (Transitions to Adulthood)(Scotland) bill was previously introduced in Session 5 by Johann Lamont MSP, but fell when insufficient time was available for the Scottish Parliament to complete all of the Bill’s stages before the Scottish Parliamentary elections. The Bill would give a right to a statutory Transitions Plan to every disabled child or young person. Support with transitions would then remain in place until no longer needed, or the young person’s 26th birthday. The Bill would also require the Scottish Government to introduce a statutory national transitions strategy to improve outcomes for disabled children and young people in the transition to adulthood, and require the Scottish Government to appoint a Minister with special responsibility for transitions.
I/We believe this bill has the potential to make a huge impact to the lives of young disabled people across Scotland, and would be hugely grateful for your support in getting it to the next stage.
Thank you very much for your interest in this matter.
Kind regards
