Mental Health Advocacy Project (MHAP) provide individual issue-based independent advocacy to people aged 18 -65 who reside or receive treatment in West Lothian, in following circumstances:
- mental ill health
- substance use
- early onset-dementia
They also support unpaid carers and residents in HMP Addiewell.
MHAP provide non-instructed independent advocacy to adults.
They prioritise supporting adults and children detained under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003; adults subject to the guardianship process under the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000; adults subject to measures under the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007.
They provide independent collective advocacy within West Lothian Service Users Forum (WLSUF) .

• Adults aged between 18 – 65 who experience mental health and/or addiction problems: in hospital, the community of West Lothian or resident in HMP Addiewell.
• Collective advocacy for mental health service users in West Lothian.
• Carers advocacy (by agreement with West Lothian Council).
