This article highlights the work of Independent Advocacy Perth and Kinross (IAPK), a long-established independent advocacy organisation supporting people across all life stages. Since 1995, IAPK has been a cornerstone of the Perth community, offering independent advocacy in diverse settings such as hospitals, prisons, schools, and community spaces.
In 2024, IAPK launched a unique collective advocacy group for New Scots, asylum seekers and refugees temporarily housed in Perth’s hotels. The group provides a safe, inclusive space where participants can share experiences, build community, and amplify their voices. Despite language barriers and the challenges of transient living, the group has already contributed to local strategies and fostered solidarity among its members.
IAPK’s values of compassion, honesty, courage, and empowerment are evident in every aspect of their work. Their collaborative, inclusive approach not only supports individuals but also strengthens community cohesion and promotes the realisation of human rights.
