SUMMARY:Peer Learn: Reaching Our Communities (Part 2)
DESCRIPTION:Join other SIAA members for an interactive discussion-based session designed to explore the challenges of community engagement within the independent advocacy sector. \nThis is Part 2 of our “Reaching Our Communities” peer learning series\, where we’ll build on insights from Part 1 and dive deeper into practical strategies for overcoming engagement barriers. \nDidn’t attend Part 1? No problem! You’re still welcome to join. For extra context\, you can review the slides from the first session\, where we mapped out communities we’re trying to reach based on their identities and characteristics\, and outlined some of the barriers they might be experiencing. \nIn Part 2\, we will:  \n\nReflect on current engagement and outreach activities\nCo-create solutions that address common engagement barriers\nExplore partnerships and resources that can strengthen engagement efforts\n\nThe main workshop will run for 1 hour\, which will be followed by a 30-minute engagement clinic\, where you can seek advice on your specific challenge and learn from peers. \nThis is a space for collective learning\, where participants can share real-world challenges and learn from one another. The session will be especially valuable for collective advocacy workers\, development workers\, and anyone working to improve engagement with underserved or hard-to-reach groups. \nTo attend this Teams session\, register via this link. \nPlease reach out to Marta (events@siaa.org.uk) with any questions. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Connecting Voices: Exploring Networks in Independent Advocacy
DESCRIPTION:SIAA’s Annual Conference 2025\nThis October\, we warmly invite you to the SIAA’s Annual Conference titled “Connecting Voices: Exploring Networks in Independent Advocacy”. \nIt is a gathering of all 32 SIAA member organisations to reflect\, connect\, and shape the future of independent advocacy in Scotland. This year\, we’ll focus on exploring the role of relationships in the independent advocacy sector – within and beyond our membership. \nTogether\, we will: \n\nRecognise and celebrate the strengths and thriving relationships already present\nReflect on the purpose of independent advocacy in a changing policy landscape\nConsider independence of advocacy\, and how it interacts with collaboration and external partnerships\nEngage in horizon scanning to anticipate future challenges and opportunities\nConnect over a shared meal\, and build new relationships across the network\n\nWe invite two representatives from each SIAA member organisation – this could be staff\, trustees or other volunteers engaged in the organisations’ management. The conference is free to attend and a (nice) lunch will be provided. \nWe are very keen to ensure that every one of our 32 member organisations is present. If you foresee any barriers to participation\, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. We are fully committed to ensuring accessibility\, and will support representatives of your organisation to attend in any way we can. \nThis year\, the conference is co-organised and co-sponsored by Professor Mo Yan\, whose Carnegie Trust-funded research is already engaging with a few member organisations. Mo will share her preliminary findings during the conference\, offering insights into the sector’s current landscape and the role that relationships have in it. \nWe’re also excited to welcome Dr Will Shepherd\, whose PhD research focused on innovation in statutory advocacy sector. Will will lead an ideation workshop\, guiding us to collectively imagine new approaches. \nOur venue this year is Civic House\, a space operated by a community-oriented social enterprise. While it may be less formal than last year’s Trades Hall\, we believe its welcoming and relaxed atmosphere will be conducive to meaningful conversations and collaboration. \nTo attend\, please register via this form: https://airtable.com/appWjYIPGA2LZBZye/pag9I6OCi8RoHYCVZ/form  \nFor alternative ways to sign up\, please get in touch. \nWe can’t wait to connect with all of you!

SUMMARY:Defining Quality in Scottish Independent Advocacy: Report Launch
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to a lunchtime webinar to launch our latest research report: Defining Quality in Scottish Independent Advocacy. \nWe often talk about “quality” in independent advocacy – but what does that really mean? \nIn this lunchtime session\, we’ll present the findings of our newest research\, which aimed to explore and articulate what “quality” looks like in the context of independent advocacy in Scotland. The data was gathered during a workshop at the 2024 SIAA Conference and later analysed thematically. The resulting insights have been conceptualised as key “pillars” that form the foundation of quality in independent advocacy. \nThis webinar is open to all stakeholders in the independent advocacy sector: Advocacy Partners\, staff and trustees at SIAA member organisations\, commissioners\, policymakers\, and colleagues across the third sector. One of the key findings of the research (spoiler alert!) is that achieving and sustaining quality is a shared responsibility\, with each stakeholder playing a distinct and important role. We hope this session will help strengthen collaboration across the sector and support conversations with a shared understanding and language around quality in independent advocacy. \nThere will be opportunities to share feedback on the report and discuss potential next steps. \nFollowing the session\, we’ll share the full report along with an executive summary. \nTo attend\, register via Teams: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/0ecf6dce-1639-4e29-aed5-b7a2257e8a9d@612a10a7-495a-4536-ae3a-adb2b8051f65  \nAny questions about the session\, please reach out to events@siaa.org.uk. \n
