The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act seeks to protect people from being harmed. Specifically the Act offers protection to people who may find it more difficult to stop harm happening to them, referred to in the Act as ‘adults at risk’. Key provisions within the Act include: · Power of right of entry to settings where abuse of adults is thought to be taking place · The creation of banning orders so that perpetrators of abuse are removed from those settings · Establishing Statutory Adult Protection Committees, operating on a multi-agency basis, to further develop strategic inter-agency working and collaboration
Although the
Act does not give anyone the right to access advocacy, it places a duty on
Council Officers to consider the importance of providing advocacy and other
