Elder Abuse:
the Scottish Legal Context
Free one day training for
independent advocates working with older people - providing an opportunity to
explore key pieces of legislation, and how they can be used when advocating for
a person experiencing elder abuse. The date for this training is 18th

GENERAL NEWS
Launch of Midlothian mental health and wellbeing website (www.midspace.co.uk)
A new website was launched on 5th October 09 and will enable people to:
· find appropriate mental health services
· make informed choices about treatment and care
· find ways to maintain mental health and wellbeing
· explore self help opportunities
· find out about local events and training opportunities
· keep up to date with local mental health and wellbeing news
As well as an online Directory of mental health services accessible to people living in Midlothian, www.midspace.co.uk will include Fact Sheets on a wide range of topics relating to mental health and wellbeing.
National Autistic Society - Don't Write Me Off: make the system fair for people with autism
Don't Write Me Off is a major, new UK-wide campaign to make sure that the benefit system works for people with autism, both supporting those who cannot work and helping those who want to work into employment. For more information please see their website.
Demand Dignity – Amnesty International
Amnesty International UK believes that poverty is a human rights issue, which is why they have launched a new campaign: Demand Dignity. Working to promote and protect the economic, social and cultural rights of the most vulnerable and marginalised, particularly on issues of maternal mortality and corporate accountability. Demand Dignity also fights for the rights of those living in slums, campaigning for gender equality and protection from violence, and against forced evictions and the denial of access to services. Enable Scotland – Get it Write
This course will show you how to communicate better with staff or clients with learning disabilities by using easy-read – a way of presenting information using a combination of straightforward language graphics. This event will be held on Tuesday 3rd November in Glasgow and the cost is £90 + vat which, includes lunch and refreshments. Consultation & Advocacy Promotion Service - Annual General Meeting
CAPS will be holding their AGM on Friday 30th October 09 at The Country Hotel, 152 High Street, Dalkeith, EH22 1AY They will be launching ‘Much More Than A Label’ which is a toolkit of ideas developed by service users about how to provide better support to people with a diagnosis of personality disorder. Tea and coffee will be available from 1.30pm with the AGM starting at 2pm. Come and have your say at the next Inclusion Scotland roadshow
Inclusion Scotland has started up their series of roadshows events and they will be going to Stirling on Friday 13th December 09. The aim of this roadshow is to bring together disabled people and their organisations with local authorities, MSP’s councillors, health boards and other professionals to discuss issues around voting, citizenship, campaigning and the Disability Equality Duty. Families Outside Conference
The focus of the day will be on the experience of families affected by imprisonment and local and international examples of the support available to them, from the offence and arrest through to release and resettlement. PUBLICATIONS
Under The Rainbow - DVD launch
Under The Rainbow is a new DVD that has been made in partnership with Broken Rainbow in London and Eighteen and Under in Dundee funded by The Nationwide Foundation. This DVD may be used as a tool to bring about discussions that focus on LGBT issues. The DVD will be launched at paired events in Edinburgh and in Dundee.
