GENERAL NEWS
Baseline Assessment of current information provision to people with dementia and their carers
A recent piece of work supported by NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (QIS) and undertaken by the Dementia Services Development Centre, Stirling University aimed to identify current patterns and practices of information provision for people with dementia and their carers across Scotland. People with dementia and their carers were involved in the development of questionnaires which were then distributed to professionals to gain their views on current information provision. Feedback indicated that oral information was the preferred option closely followed by books and leaflets. The results also showed that professionals in health and social care were viewed as the most favorable information providers. NHS QIS will use these results to further assess the level of support required by health boards to meet the ‘information provision standards’ as set out in the Standards for Integrated Care Pathways for Mental Health. The Health Professions Council
The Health Professions Council regulates the work of health professionals such as chiropodists, arts therapists, dieticians amongst others. The Council produces public facing literature as part of their ongoing campaign to raise their profile and the importance of using a registered health professional. Their posters, leaflets and window stickers aim to let the public know about who they are and what they do and the benefits of using a registered health professional. They also give information on what steps to take if a member of the public is concerned about a health professional or wants to make a complaint. For more information on how to make a complaint about a health professional click here.
